Short version:

In the equivalent of one Major League season; 281 innings, she was 43-1, with 35 shutouts, 15 perfect games, while striking out 597 batters while walking SEVEN!!! and giving up 12 earned runs while driving in 42.  She pitched every batter of every game for a state championship team, AND hit well over .400 in a sport where 1-0 games are common.  The previous state record for CAREER perfect games was 11; Chelsea had 15 in one season.  Or, more than 1/3 of the team's games, she threw a perfect game.  This includes the state championship run, a city "all classes," invitational, and playing in a league where half the schools were in a larger size category.

She was chosen as the top pitcher in the state of Michigan this year.

And, yes, it's my home town and my daughter's graduating class.  :)

quote= Lansing State JournallOlivet pitcher Chelsea Sundberg has set a new standard for area softball pitchers after leading the Eagles to the Division 3 state championship, and posting numbers in a senior season that may never be matched.

Sundberg, the Lansing State Journal softball Player of the Year, finished with 1,724 strikeouts for her career, ranking her third in the history of the MHSAA.

In her senior season, in which she posted a record of 43-1 and was also named Miss Softball, she became the state's all-time single-season leader in shutouts (35) and perfect games (15, smashing the previous record of seven, also breaking the previous career record of 11). She also ranks second among single-season leaders in wins (44 is the record) and third in strikeouts with 597

On the Eagle’s wing: Olivet senior Chelsea Sundberg had a 43-1 record and 0.30 earned-run average for the Division 3 state champions. She struck out 1,724 batters in her four-year varsity career and will attend Central Michigan in the fall. (Kevin W. Fowler/For the Lansing State Journal)

She can hit, too: Olivet's Chelsea Sundberg hit .448 with 23 extra-base hits and 42 RBI in her senior season. (Kevin W. Fowler/For the Lansing State Journal)
